Major General Mechenbier to speak at OVB Veterans Appreciation Luncheon

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio—Ohio Valley Bank announces plans for its annual Veterans Appreciation Lunch. The 2017 luncheon features a new location, the beautiful Riverside Meeting Room at the Dr. Samuel L. Bossard Memorial Library in Gallipolis, and a special guest speaker, Major General Edward J. Mechenbier.

The luncheon will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, and is free for all military veterans. Major General Mechenbier will take the stage at 10:30 a.m. with lunch immediately following.

Over his military career, Mechenbier logged more than 3,700 hours in flight. He is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and served in Vietnam. On his 80th mission over North Vietnam, he was shot down and taken as a prisoner of war for nearly six years. After which, he returned to the states and was assigned to Wright-Patterson. He continued to serve the Air Force and then the Ohio Air National Guard. In 1999, he earned the rank of Major General, retiring in 2004.

Mechenbier has earned numerous honors, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Purple Heart.
