Summer is still in full swing, but it won’t be long before area kiddos head back to the classroom. School shopping can be costly for many families. A great way to save is to take advantage of the upcoming Sales Tax Holidays.
Both West Virginia and Ohio will be celebrating the event this year, with West Virginia kicking things off 12 a.m. this Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3. Ohio’s Sales Tax Holiday is set to take place 12 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.
The Sales Tax Holiday in both states offers a great opportunity to not only save on back-to-school essentials, from supplies to instructional materials, but also offers discounts on clothing items.
In West Virginia, the following items qualify for the sales tax holiday:
- Certain clothing with a purchase price of $125 or less.
- Certain laptop and tablet computers with a purchase price of $500 or less.
- Certain school instruction material with a purchase price of $20 or less.
- Certain school supplies with a purchase price of $50 or less.
- Certain sports equipment with a purchase price of $150 or less.
Items purchased for use in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday. For additional details, visit https://tax.wv.gov/Business/Pages/SalesTaxHoliday.aspx.
